A milestone for the Port of Gdynia

This is a true milestone for Polish maritime logistics! On Friday, June 26, 2026, the fully modernized Helskie Quay at the Baltic Container Terminal (BCT) in Gdynia was officially opened. This key investment dramatically shifts the balance of power in the Baltic Sea region, boosting the competitiveness of the entire port area. The modernization of the Helskie Quay is a fundamental element of a giant infrastructure project titled “Deepening of the approach fairway and internal water areas of the Port of Gdynia”

Pol-Agent as the first operator

We are proud to announce that Pol-Agent was the first freight forwarding company to have the unique opportunity to test the operational capabilities of this modern, deep-water berth. Our team coordinated the entire project, proving our utmost flexibility and procedural readiness. Thanks to our long-standing industry experience and excellent, strategic cooperation with the Baltic Container Terminal, we have successfully paved the way for future out-of-gauge and breakbulk operations at this location.

The inaugural operation and customer benefits

As part of this premiere, demanding operation, we successfully handled a cargo with a total weight of as much as 34,200 tons. The use of modern cranes with an exceptional outreach and the optimized infrastructure of the BCT storage yard directly translate into record-short handling times. Increasing the depth to 15.5 meters allows us to safely and seamlessly accommodate the largest transport vessels operating on the Baltic Sea.

The scope of our comprehensive services for this client included:

  • discharging from the ship’s hold to the storage yard
  • storage, handling operations, and cargo sorting
  • comprehensive customs clearance and final door-to-door delivery

“The efficient handling of over 34,000 tons of steel proved that the quay’s new parameters, combined with our logistical know-how, provide clients with unprecedented speed and operational flexibility. Investments in deepening the port and BCT’s modern equipment open up completely new technical perspectives for the Polish freight forwarding market. We are fully ready to handle upcoming, even bigger challenges.”
Anna Barska-Bielecka – CEO of Pol-Agent

What the modernization means in practice?

The newly deployed equipment allows for lifting cargo up to a height of 55 meters and provides a seamless outreach across as many as 25 rows of containers on the vessel’s deck. In practice, this means that the modernized BCT quay is capable of accommodating and efficiently handling any ship—even the largest one—that can enter the Baltic Sea through the Danish Straits. This marks a new era for the entire Polish TSL sector.

Thanks to our modern logistics infrastructure and excellent cooperation with the Baltic Container Terminal, Pol-Agent gains even greater operational capabilities. This allows us to guarantee the highest standard of services, which directly translates into reduced handling times and maximum security for the cargo entrusted to us by our business partners.
